Conner Exteriors & More recently completed a series of covered walkways for St. Paul Lutheran School in Lakeland, Florida. Previously, half of the campus’s walkways were covered but the paths between the administrative building and the detached classrooms, as well as an outdoor picnic area, remained uncovered.
The Customer
Founded in 1964 by St. Paul Lutheran Church, St. Paul Lutheran School has grown from a small grade school program to serving more than 500 students through its Early Childhood Enrichment Center, Pre-Kindergarten, Elementary School, and Middle School programs. The school shares a 35+ acre campus in South Lakeland with the other ministries of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
The Challenge
In a climate like Central Florida, where thunderstorms aren’t an “if,” but a daily “when,” the uncovered outdoor areas of the school were ready for improvement. The school's caring culture allowed them to adapt well and older students pitched in to ensure the younger students made it to their classes dry and ready to learn; however, St. Paul hoped for a better, long-term solution that would protect their students as they traveled to the detached classrooms and allow them to utilize the outdoor dining area, even during hot and rainy Florida months.
The Conner Solution
The school approached us at Conner Exteriors for their outdoor challenge. We designed and installed aluminum walkway covers and a roof over the dining area that matched the style of their existing structures. The detached classrooms and the outdoor picnic area are now shaded and connected so that students can stay dry while enjoying the fresh air.
