As the year starts to wind down, and the holiday season starts poking its head around the corner, it’s time to prepare your home to host guests and entertain family. The ultimate goal is to have a joyful and enjoyable holiday.
Preparing your home for the holidays can be stressful, but here are a few tips to get you started.
Items will quickly begin to pile up as guests bring gifts and supplies to your home for the holiday season. Take some time beforehand to tidy up around the house. This can be a good opportunity for a neighborhood garage sale or to purge those knick-knacks gathering dust in the garage. Decluttering your home will give you more breathing room and do wonders to keep stress levels down this winter.
Now that your house is squeaky clean and decluttered, it’s easier to envision updates you may want to make to your home. It could be as simple as a fresh coat of paint in the family room or as impactful as finally replacing those old, drafty windows with ones that are energy-efficient.
One of the best parts of the holiday season is always eating good food with good friends, but for some, cooking for so many people can be stressful. It can be very helpful to prepare larger meals in advance. Pick up essentials that you might struggle to find as the big days get closer, stock up on plastic cutlery and paper plates, or unlock the china cabinet and treat yourself to the “special dishes.” While you won't be able to prepare everything in advance, a little forethought can go a long way when “gameday” comes around.
When your friends and family ultimately arrive, they’ll need somewhere to eat, sit, and enjoy each other’s company. Do you need extra folding chairs or tables? Maybe a Yule log for the fireplace? Or you might find yourself wishing you had more space to entertain. If that’s the case, consider adding a screen room to your home. They’re a great way to add usable space and enjoy the mild Central Florida winters.
If you start early, and make little changes with big impacts, you’ll be more than prepared to enjoy the holiday season with your family and friends.
